In May we went to Samara, Costa Rica to shoot some more content, disconnect from our usually overwhelming concrete city of Toronto Canada, and reconnect to the planet while being with each other. We met some great people, ate tons of healthy & amazing vegan food, and played with lots of dogs. And horses. And pigs. And Monkeys. ♥ Our favourite part about filming our videos, and creating the rest of our youtube channel are the adventures we share that come along with it. Soak TVP in hot water (2-3 min) 2. fry TVP in olive oil with onion 3. add crumbled tofu 4. dice tomatoes and add in with mixture 5. add cayenne and cumin Side vegan Guacamole: 1. mash avocado 2. add splash of almond milk & lime 3. mix well Great things to add to tacos: Refried beans Vegan cheese (Great brands are Daiya, Yves) diced tomatoes and lettuce Voila! We did an amazing drive from Samara to Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica and hit up some amazing hidden gems that Costa Rica has to offer. An experience that is truly unforgettable. I know I say it a lot but seriously Costa Rica is my favourite place in the world. If you guys ever get the chance to check it out I highly recommend it. The energy, the people, and the nature will simply blow you away. Travel, create memories, and see what the world has to offer. Life is too precious not to. We have a few days left in Costa Rica before we go back to Toronto for the summer. So we thought we d put up a blog with an update and a few questions for you guys... Although its going to be a hard goodbye for us, leaving this paradise lifestyle of morning surfing on Playa Hermosa, organic food in Santa Teresa, yoga at sunset, and the wonderful stray dog friends that follow us anywhere we go...we re looking forward to some of the benefits of summer in Toronto, Canada. Cottage season is always a good time and already planning to do some hiking and camping in beautiful Ontario. Elephant Haven is part of the Elephant Nature Park organization based in Chang Mai, and although Elephant Haven was once a trekking camp providing tourists with elephant riding and entertainment, it has since been converted into a place where elephants can recover in peace and be elephants again. The business of people using Elephants to acquire easy tourist dollars is ugly, abusive, shameful, and unfortunately quite profitable… but places like Elephant Haven & Elephant Nature park serve both as sanctuaries for these animals and as necessary experiential education for tourists and animal lovers alike. They help shine a light on the need for us to reevaluate our relationships to this planet’s most wonderful creatures. Upon our jouney to Thailand, we had the great pleasure of spending a few days at Elephant Haven, and experienced what it takes to care for these amazing beings. From prepearing food, to feedings them, to walking, playing, and washing them, we even helped shovel & clean up their massive amounts of poop! There is no doubt that the people of any animal sanctuary have their hands full. Saving animals is not cheap. Even though its highly rewarding, Elephant Haven still has to compete against the existing Elephant Trekking Camps that continue to win over bussiness by offering rides, and all kinds of sad entertainment provided by bo-hooks and years of abuse and submission. In Thailand, in order to buy an elephant’s freedom the cost is approx $20,000 USD. And after it acquires its freedom it only gets more expensive. Food, shelter, vet bills, care-takers, up keeping facilities, and property for the elephants to roam lead to an endless amount of expenditures. And when putting the elephant to work is not an option to bring in revenue, sanctuaries rely on visitors and donations. So, we ask that you help in any way you can. Every single dollar is worth something to the people of Elephant Haven. So thank you. We believe that it is our duty to protect those in need and we ve come to a point in our history where so many of our animal friends need the help of places like this. We hope to raise enough money to provide Elephant Haven with even just a little more financial assistance as they continue to lead by example.
