Get all the details for this Thai grilled fish street food recipe (pla pao เธเธฅเธฒเนเธเธฒ) right here: http://wp.me/p4a4F7-2fu One of my favorite ways to eat a whole fish is by grilling it the Thai way. On the streets of Thailand you ll find pla pao (เธเธฅเธฒเนเธเธฒ), or Thai grilled / roasted fish, all over the places. It s a common meal, and especially goes well with a plate of som tam (green papaya salad) and a couple of baskets of fresh sticky rice. For this Thai grilled fish recipe (pla pao เธเธฅเธฒเนเธเธฒ), I made the two most common types of fish which you ll find on the streets of Thailand: a a red hybrid tilapia known in Thai as pla tabtim (เธเธฅเธฒเธเธฑเธเธเธดเธก), and a snakehead fish known as a pla chon (เธเธฅเธฒเธเนเธญเธ). Both of them are common and widely found in Thailand, but most of the time, and especially when I make it myself, I overall prefer the pla tabtim. In the US when I went to the Asian supermarket, I also found both of these fish available, so hopefully you ll be able to find them wherever you are. You could also substitute this recipe for other types of firm whole fish. If you buy your fish from the butcher, you should try to have them (or you can do it back at home) remove the gills and guts from the gills, and not cut open the belly - that way you can stuff the fish with the extra ingredients without everything falling out the bottom of the fish. Another tip for this recipe is that if you can keep the fish with the scales on, that s better for the grilling process. So keep the scales on Along with the fish itself, one of the most important components of a Thai pla pao is the seafood sauce, which in Thai is known as nam jim seafood. The sauce is pretty simple to make, but it has so much incredible flavor from the garlic, chilies, and fish sauce. For the fish 2 whole fish (also 1 fish works fine, just reduce ingredients) ยฝ kilo of salt (big grain if possible) 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour About 1 tablespoon of water 4 - 6 stalks lemongrass small handful of kaffir lime leaves For the sauce seafood 6 tablespoons fresh lime juice 3 tablespoons water 2 tablespoons fish sauce 1 tablespoon sugar ยฝ teaspoon of salt 15 cloves of garlic 20 Thai bird chilies (prik kee noo suan เธเธฃเธดเธเธเธตเนเธซเธเธนเธชเธงเธ) This Thai grilled fish street food recipe (pla pao เธเธฅเธฒเนเธเธฒ) should take about 15 or 20 minutes to get everything ready, and then it will need to be on the grill cooking for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how hot your fire is, and how big your fish are. Get all the details for this authentic Thai pad see ew recipe (เธเธฑเธเธเธตเธญเธดเนเธง) by clicking here: http://wp.me/p4a4F7-2fn Welcome to another Thai street food recipe, this time for one of the most popular Thai fried noodle dishes known as pad see ew (เธเธฑเธเธเธตเธญเธดเนเธง). Pad Thai is also famous, but this Thai dish is less sweet and sour, and more salty and flavored with both light and dark soy sauce. The most difficult thing to think about when preparing this Thai pad see ew recipe (เธเธฑเธเธเธตเธญเธดเนเธง), is the heat of your pan. It can be a little tricky, so make sure you watch the video to get all my tips. The main thing is that you need to control the heat of your pan so you don t burn the noodles, and so they don t get too sticky and clump up. Another thing is that you need to stir the wide rice noodles from the bottom up, doing it carefully and folding the noodles more than just stir frying them. On the streets of Thailand, pad see ew (เธเธฑเธเธเธตเธญเธดเนเธง) is often available at local restaurants where they are making stir fried dishes. You just ask the vendor for the dish, and then give them your choice of meat, which is often pork or chicken, and in just a few moments you ll have a fresh plate of noodles ready to be devoured. Ok, so for this Thai pad see ew recipes, here are the ingredients you ll need: 2 tablespoons of oil for frying 3 cloves of garlic 300 grams fresh wide rice noodles (sen yai) 200 grams chicken (alternatively you could really use any meat of your choice) 1 handful of chopped Chinese broccoli (kailan) - I used about 2 stalks for this recipe. 1 egg 1 tablespoon light soy sauce ยฝ tablespoon dark soy sauce ยฝ teaspoon sugar Pepper, chili flakes, and vinegar for garnish Again, like I say for all my Thai street food recipes, the list of ingredients that I used, should just be your guide. Ingredients can vary from place to place, and everyone has different taste buds, so use them as a guide, but make sure you do some taste testing so that your pad see ew tastes perfect for you! For this pad see ew recipe, it took me about 20 - 30 minutes to prepare all the ingredients, mostly chopping up all the chicken and the Chinese broccoli, and gathering all the rest of the ingredients. After everything was ready to go, it didn t take longer than about 5 minutes to fry it all up and it was ready to be served. I like to garnish pad see ew noodles with a generous scoop of black pepper, some chili flakes to spice things up, and sometimes vinegar to make the noodles sour. Give this recipe a try, and let me know what you think about it in the comments section below! Thank you for watching, and happy cooking! Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network. Paalaa Kai Mini Mart is great little shop in Waialua, Hawaii, on the north shore, that has amazing fried chicken and SPAM musubi. Click here for details: http://migrationology.com/2014/01/paalaa-kai-mini-mart-waialua-hawaii/ One of the best things to do when you re in Hawaii is stop by a small little local restaurant to pick up local Hawaiian food and head to the beach. When I m in Haleiwa, I have to make the short drive to Waialua, to go to a small hole in the wall known as Paalaa Kai Mini Mart, which is located right next to the famous bakery by the same name. Inside of the mini mart there are all sorts of goodies to choose from. There s the full assortment of foods and drinks available at any convenience store, but the real attraction at Paalaa Kai Mini Mart is the beautiful range of pre-made things to eat. As soon as you step foot in the store, you ll get it a whiff of fried chicken. Their fried chicken is one of their claims to fame, and you can t go there without getting one or a few pieces of their fried chicken. Along with fried chicken, there s a bunch of different kinds of bentos already packaged and waiting for you. Many of the foods are Hawaiian style Korean dishes, as the owners are Korean in origin. They also have a fridge full of fresh poke, and sashimi, as well as smoked marlin and a few other fish, but I have yet to try those. Along with fried chicken Paalaa Kai Mini Mart specializes in SPAM musubi, which is a ball of rice topped with a piece of SPAM, and then wrapped in a piece of seaweed. But at Paalaa Kai Mini Mart, they don t just include a piece of spam, the spam is first marinated in teriyaki sauce and then added to the rice and seaweed. This gives it some amazing flavor, and it s nearly impossible to resist. So anyway we headed into Paalaa Kai Mini Mart, and after a little bit of contemplation, I decided to buy a couple of spam musubis, and a bento filled with rice, chicken, and Korean glass noodle salad. After buying my food, I could not resist taking a bite of the spam musubi, as soon as I got in the car. I thought I would just take one bite and then drive to the beach, but it was so good I had to eat the whole thing right then and there. After finishing that off, we then took a drive over to Waimea Bay, where we found a nice place to sit and enjoy the rest of our beach food takeaway from Paalaa Kai Mini Mart. If you happen to visit the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii, and are looking for a good local Hawaiian food shop, be sure to drop by Paalaa Kai Mini Mart for some pretty tasty things to eat - and don t miss out on their spam musubi.
