However, many of the Hill Tribe communities within Thailand have given up growing opium now and instead grow coffee or tea. #ChiangRai #Thailand #streetfood Today, we’re going on a Thai and Chinese street food tour of the Golden Triangle area of Thailand. First, we’ll start by touring the Golden Triangle park and area, and getting an up close view of the region. Then to really find delicious street food, you need to go downstream a few kilometers to the biggest main town called Chiang Saen (เชียงแสน). I really loved this town, so peaceful and quiet, and right along the banks of the Mekong River. There happens to be an amazing Chinese food restaurant, and some fantastic street food in the evening along the river. Kiao Siang Hai Restaurant (ร้านอาหารเกี้ยวเซี่ยงไฮ้) - When you’re in Chiang Saen at the Golden Triangle, this restaurant is a must. They serve properly good and comforting Chinese food, with a mix, but mainly Sichuan style Chinese food. I read in Lonely Planet, that this restaurant is very popular especially with Chinese boat crews who are sailing down the Mekong River (though not at the time of filming this video as the border of Thailand were still closed). Food was outstanding, and I especially loved the deep fried chili chicken. Total price - 1,230 THB ($41.14) for everything Mekong dinner street food - After a fantastic afternoon in Chiang Saen, visiting some of the historical monuments, we then headed back to the Mekong Riverside for dinner. In the evening you’ll find a bunch of street food stall, that all pretty much have the same menu of pounded salads, freshwater shrimp, Mekong River fish, and the highlight - snake head fish roasted in bamboo. Food was delicious, and the atmosphere was so perfect on the Mekong River. An amazing meal and time to relax. Total price - 540 THB ($18.06) The Golden Triangle is a very unique area to visit in Thailand, with so much history to learn about. I would recommend staying and eating through Chiang Saen when you’re in the area. Please read this with an open heart and open mind) As someone who is born and raised in the United Stated as an Asian American. This hits home. It s heartbreaking to see, hear and read. Can you even imagine being scared for your grandparents or parents during this time? Being afraid and worried for them while doing simple things like going to the grocery store, taking a nice walk or going to work then being attacked? The world we live in is filled with so much unnecessary hate and violence to all race and age. We are all human and shouldn t fear living our lives for the color of our skin, the way that we look or for our cultures. Growing up I was made fun of for the way that I looked, the food that I ate and the birth name that I was given. At age 6 I was picked on and bullied so much for my name. I remember days where I would cry and be so upset that my Kindergarten teacher would let me stay inside the classroom because I didn t want to go out to recess and play. A few months later my parents change my given Vietnamese name so I wouldn t get picked on. So I was given an American name. The sad thing about it is that growing up even with a "normal" name it didn t stop there. I ve had random people in cars next to me shout out racist things. I ve had people given me stares for being in a certain part of town. Even in high school I thought to myself "I wish I was white." A young girl wanting to be something other than her. That s terrible to even think right? But that s how I felt then. I grew up learning to brush off all the hate and embracing my culture. I learned to love it through my moms food and my strong family ties. Every now and then I will still get negativity thrown my way but you know I m in my mid 30s now and I ve grown to love myself. All of me and be proud of it. I want my kids growing up to feel safe and for all the future generations. So you reading this. Know that no matter how much hate and acts of violence that comes your way. You are beautiful and embrace who you are. Love it all the way and love it hard. Easier said than done sometimes but it s not impossible and I know you too can be strong. Now lets talk about all the acts of hate, discrimination and violence against Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders being on the rise in the US. It has gained a crazy massive attention on social media. In the past week, several instances of attacks were targeted to Asian elders. March 16th, a mass shooting that targeted 3 Asian owned businesses in the Acworth & Atlanta area killed 6 Asian woman and 2 others. Unfortunately, these acts of violence are nothing new and have only been getting worse as the pandemic continues. I m here today to help spread awareness of what has been happening. Choosing to speak up and use my platforms to help us get heard. Our news outlets have not been covering these attacks as hate crimes against AAPI and we need to help spread awareness. One thing the AAPI Community desperately needs is allyship and support from other communities. What will it take before we are heard? We need to stop the acts of hate and violence and hold people accountable for the things they say and do. Please take the time to send love to all of our community as we stand and grieve together.
