Symmetry prevents accidental turns which can lead to line twists. 2) The wingsuiter pulls the pilot chute out of the base of container pocket by its handle and throws it behind him. This acts as an air anchor to release the closing pin that keeps the container shut. 3) Now the closing pin is out, the pilot chute continues to pull the black deployment bag out of the container and in turn pull deployment bag off of the parachute. 4) As the deployment bag has released the parachute to the air stream, air can start to enter the nose of the canopy which will slowly cause it to inflate. See more at: http://www.wingsuitfly.com/tandem-skydive/ Very little preparation is needed for a tandem skydive - they are convenient and fairly well priced if you just want a sample of the sport - you are simply strapped to an instructor and they do the hard work. The cost is in the region of £220 or £300 with video. Be aware that a tandem skydive is like being in the passenger-seat of a fast car. All the thrill but none of the skill. Moreover, tandem jumps do not count towards progression. Although tandem wingsuit jumps have been attempted (bit.ly/tandemwingsuit), they are ineffective due to the mass:surface area ratio and potentially high risk. Perhaps a better option than a tandem is an AFF level 1 jump - it costs around £350 but you are taught to skydive, it counts towards progression (you can continue if you wish) and you jump out of the plane with two extremely experienced instructors. You can do level one only for around £350 or become a qualified skydiver by completing 18 jumps for a total of around £1700. Once you are qualified jumps cost around £20 each from 12,000ft+. On AFF you will jump with two instructors and receive video analyses of your jumps. The disadvantage is that it requires a large initial outlay and usually works out more expensive than RAPS. After a one-day course you are set for your first two solo jumps from 3,500ft - this is however parachuting and not skydiving. You will get to skydive for the first time on around the 10th jump of the RAPS system. If you decide to continue jumping, it takes around 18 jumps at a total cost of around £900 to qualify as an experienced jumper but it can be done in as few as 18 - many of which include time in freefall (REAL skydiving).
