HVE FVN acts as a summary of the 2022 season through the eyes of Rian Zetzer, Alliy Hansen, and Clare Chapman as they traveled throughout Utah and British Columbia in search for fresh tracks, backcountry booters, and good times. Words from Rian, and Inspiration behind HVE FVN: There aren’t many full female crews creating ski content together and we wanted to be apart of changing that. We looked up to skiers like The Blondes and were hoping to create something similar. We wanted our film to be air focused. I have a background in mogul skiing, Alliy has a Slopestyle background, and Clare comes from a gymnast background. We wanted to incorporate elements from our past and create a film with lots of tricks on natural features. Our goal was to showcase progression for female athletes and inspire young girls to get out with their friends and support each other. The name HVE FVN came to us in the middle of our month-long trip skiing in British Columbia. Throughout our trip we experienced tough snow conditions. We found ourselves discouraged, defeated, and doubting our abilities to put a film together. We decided to call the project “HVE FVN” because even though we were struggling, the whole point of skiing is to have fun with your friends. When I film myself skiing, I want it to look like someone else is filming. 360 cameras have made that easier than ever. Insta360 just released its latest model, the Insta360 X3. I filmed this video using the prior version, the Insta360 One X2. GoPro has its own 360 camera, the Fusion. They both work the same way. The key to making it look like someone else is filming is the invisible selfie stick, which is "invisible" to the camera because it hides within the camera s blind spot, which is between the two camera lenses. This allows the camera to look like it is hovering 4 feet away. The rest is up to your creativity. The invisible selfie stick will work with both Ista360 and GroPro. The camera set up that I mainly use is to attach the selfie stick to my ski pole. With this set up, the challenge is to ski as normally as possible while holding the camera as steady as possible. The weight of the pole becomes lopsided with the selfie stick attached, and it is more difficult to move the pole generally. But I want to keep it still because if the camera moves too much, the video will not be watchable. This means that I really cannot use the arm that is holding the ski pole. And this essentially requires me to restrict the movement on one side of my body. But it is a fun challenge to make it look like I am skiing normally. The second camera set up is to attach the selfie stick to my helmet. This can make the footage look like it was filmed from a drone. Great effect, but it comes with some challenges. First, the selfie stick is heavy, so it pulls my helmet in one direction, so I avoid turning my head unless I need to. I end up skiing like I am balancing a plate on my head. Second, the wind creates some drag, so it feels like I am skiing in one direction while somebody is lightly pulling my helmet in another direction. And last, I don t want to fall with this set up. So I do not use it that often, and only in terrain where there is a low probability of falling. I also don t use it in crowded areas. The most important thing to me is to come up with creative shots, but in as safe a manner as possible.

When Nick McNutt is filming in the backcountry, he’s all about using natural features to boost stylish tricks off. Most of the time, mother nature provides more than enough for him to get airborne, but sometimes he wants a little bit more.
