Synopsis: Bob Marley s universal appeal, impact on music history and role as a social and political prophet is both unique and unparalleled. MARLEY is the definitive life story of the musician, revolutionary, and legend, from his early days to his rise to international superstardom. Made with the support of the Marley family, the film features rare footage, incredible performances and revelatory interviews with the people that knew him best. From Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald (One Day In September, The Last King of Scotland) comes the story of a towering figure of musical history, whose music and message has transcended different cultures, languages and creeds to resonate around the world today as powerfully as when he was alive. About NEVILLE GARRICK: A true Renaissance man of the 20th and 21st centuries, Neville Garrick almost defies description. A lighting director, art director, photographer, visual and graphic artist, student of the effects of the African Diaspora, lecturer, film producer, author, technical production expert and entrepreneur, Garrick is best known for is masterful album cover designs and stage backdrops including the seminal "Haile Selassie I" stage backdrop created for Bob Marley during the magical period of the 1970s and 1980s, the period in which Bob Marley established himself as a true revolutionary international force. Garrick started his art career at Kingston College in Jamaica, and then graduated Cum Laude from UCLA in California, where he was also a member of the UCLA Soccer Team and participated in the National Finals for Soccer (NCAA) from 1971 to 1972. While attending UCLA Garrick was the associate editor of "NOMMO" the black students newspaper and a member of the Black Students Union Central Committee. In 1970 Garrick led a team of seven black art students who created a 40 ft. x 15 ft. mural titled "The Black Experience" on the northern wall of UCLA s cafeteria in Ackerman Union. On returning to Jamaica he became the Art Director of the Jamaica Daily News from 1973 to 1974, and then was invited to join the Tuff Gong family, as the Art Director, a position, which he still holds to this day. To many, the insightful album designs of Garrick was at least partly responsible for the tremendous success of Marley, attracting the eye and stating in visual form what Marley was expressing through the music. A friend and confidant of Marley, Garrick also worked in that period for the cream of the Jamaican entertainment industry, including Jimmy Cliff, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, The Wailers, Steel Pulse, and the I-Three. Garrick has produced over 100 album art designs. The close friendship between Marley and Garrick endured to the end. After Bob s passing, Garrick became more and more involved in preserving the Marley legacy. He designed a new addition to the Bob Marley Museum at 56 Hope Road in Kingston and served as Executive Director of the Bob Marley Foundation from 1990 t0 1996. During that same period he also produced the unforgettable biographical film "Time Will Tell" on Bob Marley, a film that has won him much acclaim. Garrick also held the title of Lighting and Set Director for Reggae Sunsplash, which was billed as "the biggest reggae festival in the history of the world." His Rastafarian spirituality and his over-riding interest in the role of Ethiopia in world history, culture and religion have also helped define him as a person and can be seen his book "A Rasta s Pilgrimage -- Ethiopian Faces and Places" where he spent over 2-months exploring Ethiopia s "Hidden Empire". On August 6, 2005, in a ceremony marking Jamaica s 43rd year of independence from Britain, Neville Garrick received the Prime Minister s Award for Excellence in honor of his contribution to Jamaican music. A BlackTree Media Production Subscribe to our channel http://goo.gl/lVN14 Log onto our stream at http://goo.gl/74Ama Follow us on twitter @BlackTreeTV When it comes to your dreams, will you know when to make the right move? For 19-year-old Sparkle, an innocent, bubbly young woman growing up in late 1960s Detroit, making that leap has its rewards and its consequences. The girl who grew up admiring her mother and sisters and loving everything about singing would soon discover love, hurt, disappointment, independence and courage through music, and her quest to be a star. SPARKLE is the story of three sisters who love each other fiercely, who each have their own dreams and ambitions, and who form a girl group as a way of capitalizing on the Motown sound sweeping the nation. And it looks like they re going to take the music world by storm. But looming over them is the shadow of a strong mother who isn t necessarily supportive of that dream, and hard realities about the spotlight that threaten to tear at the fabric of their tightly knit family. This new version of SPARKLE is an ode to the genius of the original 1976 movie, modified to the music, fashion, lingo and historical affects of the 1960s, while maintaining the emotional clarity and aspirational spirit of the earlier classic. The city has been changed to Detroit, the home of "Hit Factory" Motown, and the original struggling single parent is now an upper middle class family doing very well. But it retains its enriching focus on the consequences of choices and how they affect those you love, all the while reiterating the importance of family and faith.
