Pick a spot and flatten the soil. Step 2. Cut 2x4 and build the frames. Step 3. Cut stakes and drive them into the ground next to the concrete forms. Step 4. Mix the concrete mix and pour the concrete mixture into the forms. Step 5. Screed the top and trowel it after Step 6. Pour the 6 slabs outside and pull off the forms after, leaving the middle. Step 7. Pour the three middle slabs. Step 8. By respecting the space’s traditional bones and adding sophisticated decor that’s also family-friendly, Jessica was able to create an inviting, livable space for her client. See how she designed an elegant family home with pattern, colour and refined details. Though it looks like a do-not-touch home, the space is actually very kid-friendly. Jessica kept the client’s two children in mind, so was careful to choose durable pieces that could take some wear-and-tear. Elegant accents, like glass chandeliers and panel moulding in the master bedroom, add a high-end aesthetic that’s still suitable for a young family. An Art Deco inspired dining table sits in the dining room among pinstripe wallpaper, adding even more glam to the tasteful space.

Designer Maia Roffey proves sophisticated and family-friendly aren t mutually exclusive in this must-see small space makeover. See how she transformed a dated split-level home into a functional, playful and adult-approved space for a young family. Starting with the living room, Maia focused on bringing in natural light. She chose lighter walls and gold-toned floors to bounce in warmth. The homeowner s love for blue and green offers a soothing colour scheme throughout, while multiple built-ins provide stylish and easily accessible storage space. Maia removed the dividing wall between the kitchen and dining room to open up the space and allow natural light to enter. Landscape designer Terry Ryan of Cubic Yard Design transformed a small backyard with a cramped layout into a lush, garden-lover’s oasis. See how he maximized the space to create an incredible outdoor living area. The backyard was originally segmented by a garage, which blocked the main part of the garden and resulted in overgrown greenery. Once removed, zones were created, including an outdoor dining spot with a carport that doubles as a protected area for rainy weather. One of the homeowners has a European heritage, which is incorporated into the garden’s aesthetic. Pea gravel and stone, similar to what you’d find in a European garden, are used throughout. The backyard includes a homegrown vegetable garden as well as diverse plants and flowers, requiring an investment in time and heart – perfect for an avid gardener.
